The St. Cecilia Chamber Choir—of Damariscotta and performing in the midcoast Maine area—is named for the patron saint of music and the arts, but is not affiliated with any particular church and is not religious. So instead of a logo based on religious or church connotations, we instead focused on the music sung by the Choir—music of the Renaissance and English choral traditions. We used a typeface with hints of blackletter qualities and modified with “neumes,” a precursor to modern musical notes. The result is a lively wordmark, perhaps indicating vocal variation (as the neumes appear somewhat diacritical) and with a hint of a halo.
